This subject of an on online retirement business is near and dear to my heart since I am on the verge of retirement.
I
was born in 1943 so do the math. This makes me a pre-Boomer, but since
I married a Boomer, I consider myself one by marriage.
As I have approached retirement, I have become concerned
about a couple of things.
First, I am a very active person and I cannot think
about not having a challenging project which I find fun.
Second, I am concerned about modern medicine
extending our lives. You know the old adage that there is good and bad
in everything. I am happy to live longer (as long as it is quality
living). The bad is that even though we are well fixed, if we live a very
long time, we could deplete
our retirement savings.
I focused on the Internet and launched my preparation
for an online retirement business a few years ago. I decided to
create a website that helps Boomers to start up business on the Internet.
More about that website later.
I also started publishing a monthly online magazine
(ezine) called Boomer eZine. I invite you to become a subscriber at www.boomer-ezine.com.
Don't let the title throw you. You don't have to have gray hair (or no
hair as is my case) to get great value from reading it.
With that aside, what I found was that most retirees
in the early edge Boomer population were afraid of the Internet and the thought
of starting an online business.
Their main fear was the seemingly overwhelming
challenge of learning all the technical expertise to build a website.
Believe me, I understand your concern. I have been there.
I am fortunate that I learned to program computers in
the "dark ages" of computers in 1963. (Again, do the
math). I am comfortable with them. I have been building my own
websites for several years using Microsoft FrontPage.
During my early research into starting my online
retirement business to assist Boomers in retirement, I realized that
the technical challenge of building a website on the Internet was going to be a
stumbling block for most Boomers. I started looking for a way to
eliminate the problem. ... That's when I found Site Build It (SBI).
At first, I was skeptical. I had been using
FrontPage for years. How could this SBI build a website and lead me
through starting an online retirement business that really works? How
could it make it easy enough for a computer beginner to learn how to use it?
I spent hours researching SBI (ask my wife,
Linda). SBI has so much information on its website that it can bewilder
you when you are drilling down looking for answers. If you run into this
problem, contact me for help.
I decided that the only way I could really find out
about SBI was to "test drive" it, so I did. Besides, SBI
offers a solid guarantee. If you decide SBI is not for you, you get a
refund (and you get to keep the domain name you picked). I signed up the
free 30-day trial and I am happy to report I have never looked back.
I found what Boomers
need to use to build their online retirement business.
I started www.Retirement
Jobs Online.com website as an SBI experiment. It is now a solid,
growing retirement business thanks to SBI.
I thought I was pretty savvy about the Internet. Boy! Was I in for a surprise.SBI taught me tricks to help me and
showed me traps to avoid. I shared many of these in articles in the ezine
so our readers could use them in their online retirement business.
Any
future content website that I build will be an SBI site. Witness the
fact that this website is build on SBI. What better recommendation can one
make?
SBI
has a page dedicated to discussing the SBI concept with retirees. You
really need to take the time to go there and read it. There are a couple
of videos for you to view. In one of them, Claude Jollet makes a very
passionate presentation on how SBI changed his retirement.
